The name
It’s actually supposed to be the fairly perfunctory ‘jones-tee’ which reflects my name; Tim Jones. It does however have the pleasing / infuriating similarity to the word ‘honest’. I wondered whether this might communicate as either a bit illustrious or as protesting too much, but I quite like the idea of being held to truthfulness even if it is sometimes a bit inconvenient.
Myself
I am a PhD candidate at King’s College London where I’m writing a thesis testing Abraham Kuyper’s doctrine of Common Grace against the practices of contemporary Christians working in UK politics. I hope to share my research, ideas, methods and findings here as the project progresses.
I oversee training at Emmanuel Church in Brighton, teaching on the Internship and Institute programmes. Emmanuel is a reformed, charismatic, missional, primitivist free church in the Newfrontiers family. If those jargon terms don’t mean much to you, hopefully my writings will explain along the way. For now, suffice it to say that I recognise there are many forms of churchmanship but I love ours and believe in what we do.
In real life, I am married to Charlotte, the best and most patient woman in the world, and we have three young daughters. In terms of my ‘stances’ I consider myself to be a theologically reformed evangelical of a fairly non-progressive stripe. I hold political concerns as subservient to theological concerns and I don’t have a party-political allegiance.
