Reading Common Grace 7. Original Righteousness

Adam was created with greater vitality than we have yet “was susceptible to sin, death, and curse, such that he had to make a transition to a state that was sin-proof, death-proof, and curse-proof” His ‘original righteousness’ is something inherent to the nature of the human as created and not a later ‘supernaturally added gift’ (donum superadditum). “At delivery the mirror must be in good condition and must have no defects” writes Kuyper “Later, for whatever reason, the glass may crack or the mercury may get tarnished, but this must not be the case when it is delivered.” We can conclude that Adam was made perfect, with the potential to grow towards a final consummation.
