In this section Kuyper turns his attention from examining the Noahic covenant (which he has termed ‘the starting point’ of the doctrine of Common Grace) back to the creation-fall narrative in Genesis.
He begins by insisting that the reality of God’s speaking must undergird our interpretation of Genesis 1-5. “The philosopher seeks a philosophy,” says Kuyper, “but a Christian who knows God’s Word has his philosophy, has his view of reality, has his standpoint, and from that standpoint has an unfaltering view on what lies behind, around, and before him.” It will be on the basis of God having spoken in and through the Genesis account that Kuyper will make the following claims about the reality of Common Grace.
